Neue Schule Starter Bit
Make the first start the right start –establish the basics. The Starter is designed to promote acceptance and confidence in the contact. It is a common misconception that mouthing should be encouraged, when in fact it is quiet, relaxed acceptance we are aiming for. A gentle bit that encourages the horse to stretch the top line forwards and down into a soft consistent contact.

Neue Schule Turtle Top Bit with Flex
Turtle Top™ with Flex
Anatomy-inspired double jointed bit design with enhanced mouthpiece stability, through optimised alignment of the mouthpiece surfaces to the tongue and palate.
The Turtle Top™ link shape takes inspiration from the shell of the Box turtle. This flattened dome shaped link lowers palate pressure and prevents the cannons from being pushed upwards above the link by the horse’s tongue.
The Neue Schule Flex design concept delivers a guaranteed and well controlled co-alignment of the surfaces of the mouthpiece with the sensitive surfaces of the equine mouth. For most designs Flex delivers parallel co-alignment of the Turtle Top™ dome with the equine palate.
In selected designs we allow Flex to deliver some firm but fair additional pressure to the tongue and poll using a lever action-induced rotation of the mouthpiece. The extra pressure obtainable is carefully restricted with Flex limiting the range of additional rotation to around 10 degrees.
FlexZ
FlexZ is a development of our popular Tranz range (hence the “Z”). Gently curved cannons form a wide arch aligned over the tongue and held in shape by Turtle Top™. FlexZ is therefore more securely centred on the tongue and more resistant to being pulled through the mouth.

Neue Schule Tranz Angled Lozenge
The NS Tranz mouthpiece is ergonomically designed for both comfort and communication. A very popular comfortable mouthpiece that promotes feel and responsiveness encouraging a soft sustainable contact. Our short link NS Tranz Angled Lozenge is aligned, uniquely, at 20° to the bore axes of the cheeks. When a contact is taken, the smoothly profiled lozenge and loops press gently down onto the centre of the tongue thus a higher level of communication through the rein is achieved. The more pressure – sensitive side areas of the tongue are thus relieved and the thicker less pressure-sensitive area is brought into play. The double joint allows more flexibility ensuring a clearer and more independent rein aid.

Neue Schule Verbindend loose ring
Greatly clarifies and emphasises the signals through the rein. Promoting self carriage and throughness, a true outline and freedom through the shoulder can be developed. The Verbindend has consistently helped eradicate tongue evasions, encouraging the horse to soften and relax through the jaw. The cleverly curved mouthpiece can also enhance the development of the bend for lateral work and smaller circles. This dressage legal snaffle is not severe, so if you are a pleasure rider and simply wish to lift the forehand then this bit is a logical choice.
Available in 12mm or 16mm mouth thickness

Neue Schule Baucher
This combination of Baucher cheek and NS Tranz mouthpiece usually helps the rider to achieve and maintain a rounder and more correct outline. If your horse is constantly resisting, strung out or coming above the bit the usual response to the NS Tranz Baucher is a head lowering action and softer feel through the rein. This design often proves beneficial for the over sensitive mouth. Highly recommended where help is needed for straightness and directional control.

Neue Schule Full Cheek
Excellent for directional control and tight turns during faster work as the mouthpiece will not slide across the mouth when turning. It is also safer for young horses, especially when introducing to road work, as it should not pull through the mouth in a panic situation. Highly beneficial for children or novice riders who may not be sufficiently experienced in supporting their inside rein. The upper cheeks may be fixed to the cheek pieces with Fulmer Loops in order to stabilise the mouthpiece.

The NS Tranz Universal offers control without discomfort or severity. It is brilliant for faster work such as jumping as you can turn much more easily. The Universal also helps to eliminate the head toss when asking for a downward transition, or shortening in between fences. If you need to upgrade from a snaffle, it is highly recommended as it offers varying degrees of control. Also an excellent training tool prior to introducing the doubles for employing two reins and a curb strap.

JP Korsteel Jointed Sweet Iron Full Cheek
The Korsteel ‘JP’ range of bits have been designed to reduce the nutcracker action commonly associated with single joint bits. The mouthpieces are curved, which gives the tongue more room and allows the bit to lie more sympathetically in the mouth.
Sweet Iron metal encourages the horse to accept the bit and the contact by increasing salivation. The metal oxidises in the mouth which produces the ‘sweet’ taste. The single joint of this bit creates pressure on the tongue, the roof and the bars of the mouth. The full cheeks are perfect for horses who have difficulty in responding to the rein’s turning aids – the cheeks help to guide the head in the directed that the rider wants to go in. This bit is brilliant for young horses who need a soft bit but with a little extra guidance.

JP Korsteel Jointed Dutch Gag
The J.P. Korsteel jointed dutch gag 3 Ring is a curved mouth single jointed continental snaffle bit, also sometimes known as a 4 ring continental snaffle.
The curved mouthpiece follows the contours of the horses mouth and is good for horses with a larger tongue.
The continental cheek of the jointed J.P. dutch gag involves a series of stainless steel rings, the main snaffle ring with one smaller ring above and two below, which enables a number of different positions for the reins.
Correctly, the dutch gag should be used with two reins, one on the main snaffle ring, and a second on either of the lower two smaller rings depending how much poll pressure is required.
Often this bit is only used with one rein on the lower rings, but ideally if only one rein is to be used the bit should be used with roundings to maintain a better contact with the horses mouth.
Originally designed to emulate the effect of draw reins in the showjumping arena, the continental snaffle is a popular bit for horses and ponies, and useful for horses that dislike a curb but respond well to poll pressure.
Continental bits work by raising the bit up in the horse or ponies mouth in a similar manor to a conventional gag, but there is a limit to the extent this can happen thus lessening the severity.
In addition to this, a lot of poll pressure can be achieved on the lower setting on the dutch gag which is why ideally two reins should be used to ensure a correct contact can be maintained on the snaffle rein when the poll pressure is not needed.
Available 41/2″ – 6″

JP Korsteel French Link Dutch gag
Korsteel French Link 2 Ring Dutch Gag. The Dutch Gag is a double jointed bit that acts on the tongue and the bars of the mouth. The French Link eliminates the nutcracker and palate action of a single jointed bit and instead applies pressure to the horses tongue.
The Dutch Gag uses a lever action which raises the bit in the horse’s mouth and helps the rider to maintain control of the horse. Poll pressure is also applied when the reins are placed on the lower ring. The Dutch Gag 2 ring is lower in severity than the 3 ring gag as the 2 rings have a lower angle of leverage.
Two reins should be used with the Dutch Gag 2 Ring; One on the main snaffle ring of the bit and the other on the second lower ring. If only one rein is to be used when using the Korsteel Dutch Gag then roundings should be used to help maintain a better contact with the horse’s mouth.
The Korsteel Dutch Gag is made from stainless steel.

JP Korsteel French Link Baucher
Korsteel French Link Baucher Bit is a great choice for horses who like a steadier bit contact or those who need something just a hair stronger than a regular snaffle. The Baucher bit, also known as the hanging cheek snaffle, has a large ring at the cheek and a smaller ring set above for attachment to the bridle. This longer cheeks allows a small amount of poll pressure to be applied when the bit is engaged. This bit can help to encourage your horse to lower his head and is useful with horses who have a higher headset. It is also a good bit for children who may need a bit more control than a traditional snaffle.
The French link mouthpiece has two joints allowing it to apply even pressure to the tongue, bars of the mouth and lips while avoiding any pressure on the roof of the mouth. It also does not have the nutcracker effect of a single jointed snaffle which can provide a great deal of bar pressure and pressure onto the roof of the mouth. This is a very popular mouthpiece accepted my most horses.

JP Korsteel French link Full Cheek
The JP Korsteel Stainless Steel French Link Full Cheek Snaffle has a slightly curved mouthpiece, to allow a more comfortable position for the bit to sit in the horses mouth
The full cheek french link snaffle is a useful bit for green horses, as the full cheek prevents the bit from being able dragged through the horses mouth.
Full cheek french mouth snaffles conform to the shape of the horses mouth more naturally than a jointed bit, eliminating the nutcracker action
Full cheek bits are often used on young horses to aid steering, as the cheek gives a more positive action against the cheek when the rider asks for a turn.
Full cheek snaffles should be used with fulmer loops which secure the top of the bit to the cheekpieces to prevent the bit from rotating and leaving the cheeks pointing out which could pose a hazard. By securing the cheek, it also allows a very small amount of poll pressure to come into play, helping to encourage a lower outline.

JP Korsteel Fulmer Jointed Snaffle
The Jointed Fulmer Snaffle from Korsteel has a single joint which produces a nutcracker action – this mainly applies pressure to the tongue, the bars of the mouth and the horse’s palate. The Fulmer bit is very similar to a full cheek snaffle, however the loose ring allows the horse to move the bit around more in their mouth. This can discourage leaning but encourage jaw relaxation and extra salivation.
The full cheeks on this bit help to improve steering, so it is ideally suited to younger horses and ponies, or horses who can use their head and shoulders to evade the rider’s aids.
This bit is dressage legal.
£22
JP Korsteel French Link Dutch Gag
The Korsteel French Link Two Ring Dutch Gag is milder on the horse’s mouth than a single-jointed gag, due to the central link reducing the nutcracker action on the tongue and roof of the mouth.
The Korsteel French Link Two Ring Dutch Gag bit’s main action is on the horse’s poll, the roof of the mouth and on the bars of the mouth. The amount of poll pressure can be increased by attaching the rein to the bottom ring, therefore making the bit stronger and more severe. The Two Ring Dutch Gag can be used with one rein, two reins or with roundings. If a small amount of chin pressure is required, curb hooks can be attached to the top ring to use a curb chain, or a leather strap can be looped through the top rings and under the chin.
This bit is not dressage legal.
